Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter

Being a Volunteer Firefighter is a very rewarding yet demanding position in the community. Our District is very dedicated to recruiting and developing strong candidates for the position of Volunteer Firefighter. To become a volunteer you do not need to possess any previous experience in emergency response. However, we do require that the applicant possess either the State of Colorado Firefighter I/Haz Mat Operations and the National Registry or State of Colorado EMT-B Certification at the time of application. We no longer offer an in-house fire academy. Many community colleges, such as Aims Community College in Greeley offer quality training programs in both Fire Academy and Emergency Medical Services. Please contact them for more information regarding the cost and scheduling.

During your one-year probationary period, you will be required to successfully complete a Probationary Firefighter Task Book. If you are an applicant that has previously completed both and State of Colorado Firefighter I/Haz Mat Ops and EMT-B at the time of application, then once accepted as a member, you will only be required to complete ongoing training and you do to have to sign a training reimbursement agreement.

In some limited circumstances, the District may fund the completion of the Fire Academy or EMT. We ask that you be willing to make at least a two year commitment to the organization and you may be required to sign a training reimbursement agreement if the District pays for the medical or fire academy training. All uniforms, equipment, and on going training is provided by the Fire District. Previous medical, firefighting, or any emergency response type of training is helpful. Many of our volunteers have been hired for full time career firefighter positions within our organization.

Although, we accept applications year round and our application can be found HERE.The Volunteer Firefighter Job Description can be found HERE.
